In Real Life: Slow, Print, Press | 7 Dec | 12-4pm | £60 | 16+yrs | Tutor Caroline Stow | Print Room and Studio 3
These monthly workshops are an antidote to the digital world, immersing you in the process and craft of sensual textured art-forms, engaging fully with the physical world to create a unique piece of work. All levels of experience welcome. Throw away your phone, slow down, be present and make something new.
Learn to make beautiful botanic prints using materials gathered from the Brewery gardens as a starting point.
What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught?
The workshop will cover the basics of making a plate which is then inked and printed up in our fully equipped specialist print room. It will be taught using demonstration, lots of real life examples and then your own hands on experience.
Who is it suitable for?
The course is suitable for anyone, but does require a fair amount of standing. Unfortunately the print room is not wheel chair accessible.
What do I need to bring with me?
We will use linseed oil based ink, which can stain so please bring an apron or old clothes you do not mind getting messy and some thin plastic gloves to protect your hands
Are there any additional costs?
About the tutor:
Caroline Stow is a printmaker, whose work is rooted in an interest in ecology, environment, and health. She is particularly interested in making as an explorative process, which melds together materiality and slow thinking and in the positive, restorative, and nurturing effects of creativity. In her own work she uses printmaking (etching, etched lino, monoprint and collagraph) to make and remake images, forming and dissolving connections over time.
As well as exhibiting widely, Caroline currently teaches at Iron Press studios in Lancaster and runs workshops at Rookhow in the Rusland valley, as well as the Brewery and has over 30 years of experience of working with adults in Further, Higher, Adult and Community Education.
