Neil Cowley Trio

Last year, pianist and composer Neil Cowley announced the “un-pressing of the pause” ending his trio’s 7-year hiatus. With it, a magnificent new recording, Entity and a headline show at the 2024 EFG London Jazz Festival that would become one of its fastest selling shows of the year. Following their sold-out London show, the Neil Cowley Trio announced The Entity Tour 2025.

Cowley formed the Neil Cowley Trio in 2005. He had been a key member of the Brand New Heavies and the ‘go-to’ pianist for acts such as Adele, famously contributing to Hometown Glory and the stomping piano for Rolling in the Deep and lent his golden piano touch to Emile Sandé and Michael Kiwanuka amongst others. Defined by stadium-sized piano riffs, whimsical romps and poignant passages, the trio redefined the jazz piano trio format across six acclaimed albums over 12 years while building an army of loyal fans. In 2017 Neil Cowley paused the trio to embrace electronica and neo-classical production, “a period” he says, “of solitary music making squeezing emotion from an armoury of synths”.

The Entity Tour sees Cowley reunited with his ‘brothers’ and close musical allies, bassist Rex Horan and drummer Evan Jenkins, returning to the joy of human connection both in the studio and on the stage. A tearful, yet joyful reunion.

“I missed the human connection so much on stage during my live solo shows” explains Cowley, “There’s actually nothing worse than sitting in a dressing room on your own before a show… other than sitting in a dressing room on your own AFTER a show! You want to look in someone’s eyes and know that they’ve just felt what you’ve just felt. I’m always guaranteed that feeling with Rex and Evan.” The Entity Tour sees the Neil Cowley Trio performing music from their highly acclaimed new album,
Entity.

Expect killer melodies, majestic rolling grooves, and emotionally charged pieces of glass-like fragility. Alongside fresh material, the live shows will revisit Cowley classics – dynamic pieces with thrilling crescendos, heart-wrenching and heart-pounding in equal measure. It’s three friends reunited, giving their all to each other to reach one common goal, inspiring, conversing and metaphorically dancing together. Above all, the shows promise atmosphere and emotion with a heavy dose of the renowned Cowley wit.

“Triumphant return” Jazz FM Adam Alphabet Track of the Week

“A masterclass in tension and release where even the most reflective of songs conceal telling hooks” **** Mojo

“He’s a real master musician … a very wide conception of what a jazz trio can be.” BBC Radio 2: Jamie Cullum

“as mysterious, melancholic and mesmerising as ever…but it’s the very integrity of Entity, it’s singularity of mood, that is its strength. Welcome back; a must for fans” **** Jazzwise Editor’s Choice
