Stitching a Memory workshop will show you how to upcycle your treasured kept fabrics (these could be baby clothes, band t-shirts, other special fabrics kept to one side) and embroider them with a personal memory. Helena draws on her own creative practice to lead you through her simple, and beautifully effective process, to create a special embroidered keepsake portrait or to begin on a memory blanket. Unfold your squirrelled-away materials, and let them tell your tale.
What will the class cover and how will it be taught?
Helena will guide you step by step, through group demonstrations and 1 to 1 tuition, to recreate your image/memory. The workshop will involve planning and designing your piece, creating and cutting patterns/templates from your original images and fabrics and hand stitching (learning and using a variety of stitches) on embroidery hoops.
Who is it suitable for?
Whether you are a complete beginner or you have done stitching before but are on the lookout for different ideas, this class is for you.
What do I need to bring?
An image/photo you want to recreate (printed on A4). If you would like the tutor to print your images, please send to Helena.mcgregor@breweryarts.co.uk 48 hours before the workshop.
Fabrics you have kept to use in your stitched memory (there will be some fabric scraps available to use in addition or if you don’t have any).
Are there any additional costs?
No
