Doors 7.30pm | Tickets £28 | Theatre

The masters of melody from Norway join forces with a British jazz star.

Espen Eriksen Trio and Andy Sheppard first teamed up for two concerts in London in 2016. It was clear from the first note that this was a perfect match. To quote the jazz website All About Jazz, “the symbiosis between the saxophonist and the trio is truly remarkable”.

In 2018, they released their first album together, “Perfectly Unhappy”, which was followed up with a live album and last year’s studio album “As Good As It Gets”. The album was elected the 6th best jazz album in 2023 by Jazzwise.

After 17 years, seven albums and regular touring on four continents, Espen Eriksen Trio is with their unique group sound firmly established on the international jazz scene.

With a career spanning over four decades, working together with the likes of George Russell, Gil Evans and Carla Bley, Andy Sheppard is truly one of Europe’s leading saxophonists.

Together, they create top of the line melodic jazz that has motivated critics to look for their finest superlatives and draw comparisons with the legendary “Belonging” quartet led by Keith Jarrett and Jan Garbarek.

“Together these tracks comprise an album of classy, inventive jazz improvisation that’s pretty near perfect.” – Jazzwise

“This music is simply too beautiful, so one needs to hear and feel it to understand. It’s the way it touches and comforts your mind, more than simply what it sounds like.” – HiFi Critic

Lineup:

Andy Sheppard – tenor saxophone
Espen Eriksen – piano and compositions
Lars Tormod Jenset – double bass
Andreas Bye – drums
