Life Painting Workshop

Painting |

Life Painting Workshop | Sat 24 May | 11.30am-5.30pm | £66 | 16+ yrs | Tutor Catherine MacDiarmid | Studio 3

A fantastic opportunity to practice painting directly from a life model, learning new and quick ways of mixing and applying meaningful colour. The session also allows the opportunity to develop a longer painting.

What will the day cover, and how will it be taught?

The session will be taught through a series of poses between 20 minutes and 2-3 hours long.  You will learn some quick painting techniques that develop skills in capturing form and structure. Also, you have the opportunity to capture a longer pose for you to practice capturing the more subtle nuances of tone and flesh colour. Guidance will be given during the workshop. This allows each outcome to be achieved and learners to altogether develop the painting medium of their choice.  A life model will be present throughout the session.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring:-

  • A basic range of paints of your choice. Good flesh colours include Titanium White (not watercolour), Cadmium red, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow ochre, Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber or Burnt Sienna (plus other colours if you have them)
  • 4 x appropriate surfaces – watercolour paper or primed cartridge paper will do.
  • Range of brushes
  • Pots for water or solvents (oils)
